SNOW!!  What a sweet surprise this past weekend.  The storm that rolled through the Sierra’s produced quite a bit of snowfall – way more than what had been predicted.  Most of the NASTC coaching staff got to enjoy the fresh snow while in Mammoth for the PSIA-Western Division, Spring Convention event where they were giving clinics to instructors and coaches from all over the region.

Conditions are great up at Mt. Shasta!  A couple spots are still open on the NASTC Shasta trip, May 10-11.  Join a fun crew and embark on an adventure up one of California’s highest peaks.  This is a great trip whether you are an experienced ski mountaineer or if this is your first backcountry skiing adventure.  It is a fun supportive group where information, knowledge, experiences and stories are freely shared.  You will learn all the skills you need to make it to the summit.  Along the way, you will witness exceptional natural beauty and you will probably have your limits stretched a bit, but you will be rewarded with incredible feelings of accomplishmen! t, elation and new friendships.                                                                           

Rock Climbing season is here!!  The rocks are heating up, the air is getting warmer and the trees and plants are starting to bloom.  Come and experience the fun of playing outside through the climber’s lens.  Rock climbing is a fun sport that has so many physical and mental rewards.  It is a great way to give your body a workout and an opportunity to get your mind to quiet down and focus at the same time.  NASTC’s guides are highly experienced and skilled climbers and AMGA certified.  They are available to introduce you to the world of rock climbing or to guide you at some of their favorite rock climbing spots through half or full day sessions.  Introduce your kids to the fun of rock climbing at the NASTC KidsClimb Camp, July 11.

There is no place in the world like Portillo, Chile.  This is our 20^th season in Portillo, and we never get tired of visiting.  The NASTC Portillo Summer Dream Skiing trip, is the ultimate southern hemisphere skiing experience.  Uncrowded slopes, beautiful scenery combined with the warmth of Chilean culture, great wine and the delicious fresh produce and fish that Chile is known for, is a combination that is difficult to replicate and one that Portillo provides so well.  Add top quality coaching and it’s icing on the cake.  NASTC’s knowledgeable and passionate coaching staff know how to set up a strong positive learning environment so th! at everyone improves upon their capabilities and comes away with not only a wonderful cultural and skiing experience but also learning and growth in their skillset.  Trip dates are: August 15-24.   

Hello NASTC Skiers and Friends!  All North Tahoe resorts are open!  Great skiing this past weekend at Alpine Meadows which opened from top to bottom last Friday – sign up for the All Conditions/All Terrain course, January 26-28 and see why this mountain is still one of the locals’ favorite places to ski.  If the forecast holds true, we should be getting a fresh coat of paint this week. 

NASTC is still accepting food donations for the Project Mana Food drive.  We can accept boxed or canned items as long as they are unopened and unexpired.

Training for your PSIA Level 3 exam?  Check out our course at Snowbird, February 1-5.  Snowbird has been the trial grounds for the PSIA National Team selections and a great place to train for your Level 3 certification.  Snowbird’s steep and challenging terrain forces you to be accurate with your movements which is necessary to achieve the full cert level.  https://skinastc.com/index.php/all-courses/80

Planning on skiing in the backcountry?  Check out our AIARE certified Avalanche Safety Level I & II courses.  Avalanche Level I is highly recommended for anyone planning or interested in backcountry skiing.  Avalanche Level II is a course designed for individuals that find themselves in the leadership role within their backcountry skiing groups or for those that want more depth of information on how the snowpack and weather increase or decrease the risk for avalanches to occur. 

Course dates:

Avalanche Level I:  January 18-20 or February 21-23

Avalanche Level II:  February 7-10

International Ski Adventure in France – March 1-8

Ski La Grave & the Southern Alps with NASTC as your guide.  All the details are taken care of for you.  All you have to do is show up ready to ski and have fun.  This is a weeklong trip in the beautiful Hautes Alpes region of southeastern France.  There are two groups available for you to join, depending on your skiing goals.  One group will shoot for adrenaline pumping, high exhilaration experience.  The other group will work on their advanced skiing skills and build more slowly on the adventure factor.  Each group will have a local guide to lead them to the ideal off-piste terrain choices and a coach to give you feedback on your skiing and coaching you through any challenges that you might encounter.  The trip includes lodging in a double occupancy room (single upgrades are available), breakfast and dinner daily, lift tickets, instruction and guiding.  Check out the following trip descriptions for more information:  https://skinastc.com/index.php/news/355 or https://skinastc.com/index.php/all-courses/331
