The start of the World Cup is almost here!

The first World Cup race of the season is fast approaching.  October 25th & 26th marks the start the world cup season with a giant slalom race on the Rettenbach glacier.  Both men and women will race on the same run, which also happens to be one of the steepest pitches on the circuit.  Athletes will be coming off their summer training regimens of physical conditioning and on-snow training.  Some teams had better on-snow summer training than others due to mixed snow conditions across South America.  There will be a number of athletes missing from this race due to injuries sustained over the summer during training and others that haven’t quite made a full recovery from their injuries the previous season.  The Soelden race is always exciting because it is the first race of the season and has so much momentum around it.  It is particularly an important event for the athletes and coaches as it illustrates the strengths and weaknesses in the off-season training programs.  It is always fun to see who is skiing strong right out of the gate.
