  • ON AVERAGE WE GET 5-15 SUMMERS TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS

Who loves skiing more than you? On average we get 80 summers if we’re lucky, only 30 of which we can afford a trip like this, 20 when we’re empty-nest, 15 when we’re still strong and fit enough, and only 5 summers in our entire lives where it works in your schedule and you get invited on a cool trip like this one. Why wouldn’t you treat yourself to an adventure you’ll never forget? DO IT!

You will bridge your seasons, maintain the improvement you made last winter, be taught by instructors who are 110% crazy-committed to seeing you improve, bring your technique and tactics up a full level (yes!), and ski way better than you ever have.

The details: fly overnight to Santiago on Aug 8, land Aug 9th morning, jump in our bus to drive together up to the mountain, ski Aug 9-16, and fly home overnight Aug 16. It is that easy: just one week away and two red-eye flights. We pull into Portillo on day one just in time for a 4-course lunch, and head out to ski! Easy-peezy…

NASTC has led a group to Portillo every summer since 1995 (except Covid 2020 & 2021). We are so proud of our students, their improvement, their loyalty, and our amazing staff.

Reach out anytime and ask us questions about this wonderful trip…rooms are filling fast.

Price includes: Santiago airport shuttle roundtrip, 7 nights lodging, 4 meals/day for 7 days, a 7 day lift ticket, 6 full days of instruction in groups of 6 or fewer, 3 tech talks, 2 video reviews, new ski buddies, new friends, lots of laughs, and the TRIP OF A LIFETIME!

Price varies based on your choice of lodging (single, double, discounted Octagon Lodge)

  • STAY FIT THIS SUMMER

So how do you do it? How do you enjoy summer sports and recreation activities without losing your ski-specific fitness level? Just being outside and taking a good walk 6/7 days has been proven to keep you moderately fit and help you live longer.

Start your summer by establishing your objectives. The four basic physiological components of athletic performance are mobility, technique, intensity/power, and capacity. So understand how the physiological components manifest in your everyday activities. Then create a balanced and comprehensive program for yourself (guided ideally by a professional trainer) addressing mobility, technique, intensity/power, and capacity.

Mobility is the degree to which you can move any body part. Mobility – especially in your ankles, knees, hips and spine – gives you options and variability. Stretching and range-of-motion drills are key here.

Technique is the source, order, sequence and magnitude of your movements. If your joints and their mobility are the instruments in an orchestra, technqiue is the conductor telling them when to get louder or softer.

Intensity is horsepower…the intensity of your output relative to your maximal capability. Sprinting for 10 seconds is more intense than running a marathon, but the latter is more difficult.

Capacity is your ability to repeat bouts of exertion without a deterioration in your intensity.

In order to create a program and meet your goals, you need to first identify your own individual benchmarks for each of the above components.

This is taken with permission from Fitness for Skiing by Doug Kechijian and Chris Fellows, published by PSIA-AASI. The book is a great reference for designing and achieving your summer fitness goals.

So get out there, get after it, and do it!

Portillo is South America’s premiere ski resort, famous for its majestic setting and deep snow. Once you go, you’ll never want to leave.  There is a reason we keep going back to this friendly, exclusive and exhilarating resort.  Ski down to the glacier-blue Inca Lake or traverse into huge bowls amidst 15,000ft Andean peaks. With 14 lifts, 23 runs and all the snow of a maritime range, Portillo is home to big mountain extremists, world-class racers and everyday carvers; but amidst the social atmosphere of the living room and the late night disco, everyone is equal.

This is one of our favorite courses as Portillo is unlike any other resort in the world. Its majestic Andean setting is weaved amongst Incan folklore and the ultimate in skiing culture and history.  The incredible setting and atmosphere of Portillo will lift your soul and capture your heart.  Portillo offers its guests world class skiing, dining and lodging.  Gastronomy and hospitality are held to the highest standards and the terrain is legendary.  Portillo has its own gymnasium, fitness gym, swimming pool, spa, movie theatre and nightclub.  You don’t have to leave this Andean paradise for anything; Portillo has it all, in fact you may never want to leave.  At Portillo, you become part of the family.  You will encounter great camaraderie during your stay and can expect to make lifelong friends as you live, laugh and ski side by side in this Andean treasure.

The NASTC ski training camp addresses the three major components to successful skiing performance: technique, fitness, and equipment.  By addressing all 3 components in a full immersion multi-day ski training program you will make substantial improvements to your skiing.  The NASTC staff is comprised of the top ski instructors in the United States, members of the PSIA National Alpine Team and the teachers of teachers. Your skiing will improve in a safe, fun, and highly professional way under their watchful eyes.  You will ski in small groups with the same instructor all day, all week.  Backcountry tour options exist, as does group helicopter skiing.  This is the ultimate ski vacation: a superb mountain, fun-loving people, delicious food, fine wine and a beautiful hotel.  You are sure to improve, make new friends, and enjoy yourself. Portillo is everyone’s paradise!
